Tovera Talks with Barnaby Dawe, Global CMO, Just Eat
We are introducing a new feature which we hope will provide nuggets of wisdom and food for thought for our readers. Tovera Talk asks key industry figures to respond to a few simple questions and reveal a little of themselves. We’re delighted to bring you our first respondent, Barnaby Dawe, CMO of Just Eat.
Who do you admire in the brand or business world and why?
Jacqueline Gold, CEO of Ann Summers. She turned a grubby, male-focused brand into an empowering female institution.
Which brands (other than your own) do you admire and why?
Airbnb – since their inception, they’ve been a totally brand-led organisation and are so much more than just a travel company. Their vision of “belong anywhere” has formed the basis for their brand reputation and allowed them to point to great initiatives they do with guests, hosts and the community.
Are there any innovations in the past 5 years that you’d consider game-changing? What and why?
Gosh! Too many to mention. Everyday there seems to be a new piece of indispensible tech to help you at work or home. For example, AI is changing the way customers interact with brands and will set the tone of future comms developments. Watch this space…..
Who do you consider the best writer/commentator on business and/or marketing?
I tend to have a couple of business books on the go and at the moment I’m reading Jack Welsh’s “Winning” and Caroline Webb’s “How to have a good day”.
What published information sources could you not do without on a daily basis?
Facebook – for work and play.
What would you advise your 18 year old self about your future?
You can be everything you want to be. There’s nothing stopping you.
And finally: in the film of your life, who would play you?
Anything I say would be deemed vain or deluded or both!
